Evernote Clearly XPI

Evernote Clearly was shuttered (Evernote blog post) along with some other products. I use this addon frequently in Firefox, it has the ability to grab text from multiple pages and present in one page. Saves clicks and is very convenient to read without losing the flow.

I copied the Evernote Clearly from the profile folder. Profile folder can be easily accessed by going to about:support and click on the 'Show folder' in the 'Profile' row in the table.

It is a zip file, you have to extract to get the Evernote Clearly xpi. Drag and drop this xpi file to Firefox window. Done.

I don't know how long this copy of Clearly will continue to work considering the rapid changes happening in the extension environment in Firefox. I am on the lookout for another extension with similar fetching of multiple pages feature.

Firefox Open links in Background tab by default

Change browser. tabs. loadInBackground in the about:config. It will make it open links in the background tab rather than switch focus from the current tab.

From How To Make Links Open In The Background With Firefox & Chrome (MakeUseOf) :

Go to Firefox and type > about:config into the URL bar. Hit Enter and you will likely encounter a warranty warning. Fear not! Just promise to be careful and proceed.

Next you will see a long list of advanced settings. You can > Filter for > browser.tabs or simply scroll to the entry > browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground. Double-click this entry to set its value to > true. To revert the change, simply double-click again. Done.

Here is the how to make right click Google search open in the background tab:

browser.search.context.loadInBackground. double-click it and change its value to true.

Pentadactyl help error Component returned failure code: 0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED) [nsIZipReader.getInputStream]

Component returned failure code: 0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED) [nsIZipReader.getInputStream]
I was getting the above error continuously when I tried to use :help in Pentadactyl. I am not sure about why this error happens. Apparently it happens when you try to edit .pentadactylrc configuration file.

The fix is easy.

You have to delete a file called  cache.zip in the Firefox profile folder. This file can be found at Firefox profile folder\dactyl\cache.zip.

Navigate to
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles from the Run dialogue box [Windows ]+ [R] in Windows XP/Vista/7

Go to folder dactyl and delete the cache.zip file.

You have to close Firefox before doing this. Then restart Firefox and it should work.
